Freelance Technical Director (Projection Mapping Expert)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director specializing in projection mapping for an upcoming live event in New York City on October 27. This role is responsible for overseeing the technical execution, spatial mapping, media playback, and hardware setup to ensure a flawless visual display.

Note: Due to the sensitive nature of the project, selected candidates will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to receiving full project specifics.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Supervision: Oversee the technical design, signal flow, and real-time execution of the projection mapping setup.

• Projection Alignment & Mapping: Configure, calibrate, and align high-lumen projectors across complex surfaces and architectural elements.

• Media Server Management: Set up and manage media servers, playback software, and control systems.

• On-Site Leadership: Direct video technicians, AV crews, and venue technical teams during load-in, tech rehearsals, and live execution on event day.

• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve audio/visual, resolution, or signal distribution issues swiftly under event conditions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Projection Mapping Expertise: Proven experience with advanced projection mapping, surface calibration, edge-blending, and media server software (e.g., Resolume, Disguise, Watchout, or TouchDesigner).

• Location: Must be based in or able to work locally in New York, NY on October 27 (plus any required prep/rehearsal dates).

• Proven Track Record: Demonstrated background as a Technical Director or Lead Projectionist for high-end live events, activations, or immersive installations.

• Problem-Solving Ability: Strong leadership and calm technical execution under live show conditions.

• NDA Requirement: Must be willing to sign a strict Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before onboarding.

• Provide portfolio examples of previous projection mapping projects or similar work.
