About the Job

Freelance Event CAD Draftsperson & 3D Designer – Full Production Layouts (2D & 3D)

Project Budget: $2,000 (Flat Fee)
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Local candidates required for mandatory site visit)

Project Overview

We are seeking an LA-based event draftsperson / technical designer to develop scaled 2D CAD floor plans and 3D visual renderings for an upcoming event. This project requires an initial site visit to verify venue dimensions and layout constraints. The draftsperson must deliver production-inclusive plans incorporating all technical infrastructure (rigging, power distribution, audio, lighting, and video) alongside spatial layouts and decor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Survey: Conduct an on-site venue visit in the Los Angeles area to measure space, verify infrastructure, and assess power/rigging points.
  • Integrated Layouts: Develop fully integrated 2D CAD floor plans and high-resolution 3D visual renderings based on site measurements and project concepts.
  • Production Infrastructure: Plot all technical and structural overlays, including overhead rigging points, truss configurations, ground support, stage builds, and FOH (Front of House) positions.
  • Power & Utility Mapping: Map out electrical distribution, including main power drops, cable runs, feeder paths, and floor pocket/distro box placements.
  • Spatial & Safety Planning: Draft complete spatial layouts for staging, seating, exhibit areas, and food/beverage setups while maintaining clear egress routes and fire lanes.
  • Final Deliverables: Deliver editable 2D production files (.dwg), presentation-ready PDFs, and high-resolution 3D renders showing stage lighting and sightlines.

Qualifications

  • Location: Must be based in Greater Los Angeles with reliable transportation for the site visit.
  • Experience: Strong background in live event production drafting, staging design, or technical direction.
  • Software: Expert proficiency in CAD software (Vectorworks Spotlight preferred, or AutoCAD) and 3D rendering engines (SketchUp, Blender, V-Ray, Cinema 4D, etc.).
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of live production mechanics: rigging grids, electrical power drops, load capacities, and sightline physics.

To Apply & Submission Guidelines

To ensure an unbiased review process, please upload anonymized portfolio samples showing both 2D production plans (with power/rigging overlays) and 3D renderings to our submission folder:

  • Upload Folder: Make a folder, send it to us!
  • File Naming Format: Please name your files using your initials and project type (e.g., JD_2D_ProductionPlan.pdf, JD_3D_Render.jpg) and remove your company logo or full name from the drawings.
  • Application Note: Include a brief message confirming your location in LA and your availability for the site visit.
