About the Job

The News Desk Producer plays a critical role on the news desk, delivering accurate and fast content across all platforms. This individual is responsible for monitoring news sources, gathering information, and coordinating with editorial teams to cover breaking news and ongoing stories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather news, confirm reports, and perform initial research on breaking news and ongoing stories.
  • Monitor domestic and international news feeds, social media, local news outlets, and other sources for potential story ideas and breaking developments.
  • Coordinate logistics for field crews, reporters, and producers during live shots, breaking news, and planned coverage.
  • Pitch story ideas and angles for news broadcasts and digital platforms.
  • Write concise and clear news summaries, alerts, and scripts for air and internal distribution.
  • Partner closely with desk supervisors, executive producers, and show teams to ensure accurate and aligned coverage.
  • Maintain contacts with public relations, emergency services, government agencies, and key newsmakers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 2–4 years of experience working on a news desk, in a newsroom, or in a similar fast-paced media environment.
  • Strong news judgment and understanding of domestic and international current events.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage high-stress situations, and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Familiarity with newsroom software, digital media platforms, and social media newsgathering techniques.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

This role works closely with reporting, production, field operations, and digital teams to coordinate coverage, manage communications, share timely video and editorial information, and support newsgathering efforts. The position requires strong editorial judgment, quick decision-making, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt rapidly as priorities change.
